Chapter 15 in Infrastructure Project Completion, 2026, pp 363-379 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The completion phase of a project is a critical yet often overlooked critical role of in the project management cycle. This phase involves wrapping up loose ends, conducting a post-project review, and documenting lessons learned to benefit future projects. Key activities include evaluating project performance against deliverables, schedule, and cost, ensuring all contractual obligations are met, and archiving essential documents for future reference. The importance of celebrating achievements and recognizing team efforts, regardless of project outcomes should not be overlooked. Performance evaluation is guided by key performance indicators (KPIs) such as contract risk, duration, compliance, deviation from standard clauses, and order value variance. The closure phase is not just about ending a project but about consolidating knowledge, fostering improvement, and preparing for future endeavours, encapsulated by the proverb: “All’s Well That Ends Well.”
