Chapter Chapter 1 in Inclusive Welfare, 2025, pp 1-25 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter is an introductory part of the book. It provides general elaboration of welfare from an Islamic perspective, based on the principles of maqasid syariah. It covers the philosophical foundation of the Islamic financial system and expands beyond financial and economic aspects merely to maximise profit. It elaborates the integration of public and social finance towards welfare, stressing upon the role of the social sector, beyond the private sector and public sector, through the utilisation of instruments such as infaq, sadaqah, and waqf. It also explores the support of the monetary sector to ensure the equitable distribution of income through Islamic social-public finance, showing that the role of government, the monetary authority, or central bank, in particular, is vital in this case. Broad policy synergy, encompassing Islamic social-public finance and monetary economics, is essential to achieve the desired goals of quality and inclusive welfare.
