Chapter Chapter 2 in Modern Business Management, 2025, pp 13-22 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter introduces the biological concept of the “Lifespan-Heartbeat Hypothesis” and connects it to business. It discusses how companies, like animals, have a limited lifespan dictated by their “heartbeat” or business growth rate. Some companies may have short bursts of success and fade, while others evolve more gradually, suggesting that a company’s ability to survive depends on how well it manages its growth and strategic shifts over time.
