Chapter Chapter 10 in Cooperatives and the Market Economy, 2025, pp 195-212 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In the previous two parts of this book, we revealed how cooperative firms have efficiency advantages over capitalist firms in the goods and services market, and discussed how they could mitigate their efficiency disadvantages compared with capitalist firms in the capital market by making their shares tradeable in the market. This chapter and the next address the question of how to put the model of the market-oriented cooperative firm envisaged in the previous two parts into practical use. This chapter considers how to develop a legal framework within which such market-aligned cooperatives can operate.
