A chapter in Trends and Challenges of Electronic Finance, 2025, pp 235-247 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter discusses the essence and evolution of financial technology (fintech), as well as its opportunities and challenges, particularly in emerging markets. The fintech industry has recently experienced notable progress owing to the adoption of digitalization and the incorporation of advanced technologies, such as Big Data (BD) analysis, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Biometric Identification (BI), Blockchain (BC) technology, the Internet of Things (IoT), Cryptocurrency (CR), and Cloud-Based Services (CBS). Fintech investments have had a profound impact on the way financial services businesses embrace and incorporate fintech advances. This technology has immense potential to enable payment automation and provide immediate digital access to financial resources. Fintech presents substantial prospects for the development of emerging markets as well as notable challenges. A long-term shift necessitates overcoming key challenges, such as regulatory compliance, infrastructure, trust, and the digital divide. Accordingly, it is necessary to constantly provide reasonable and secure conditions for such technologies and address existing deficiencies and challenges through ongoing and gradual improvement processes that enhance growth and sustainability over time.
