Chapter Chapter 4 in Road to a More Intelligent World, 2025, pp 55-67 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In 1956, artificial intelligence (AI) was first proposed by a group of young scientists led by John McCarthy, Marvin Minsky, and Nathaniel Rochester after discussion on issues related to machine-simulated intelligence. It was the first time that AI had been described as something that “can in principle be so precisely described that a machine can be made to simulate it.” This marked the birth of AI as a field of research.
