Chapter Chapter 5 in Road to a More Intelligent World, 2025, pp 69-94 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Artificial intelligence (AI) technology research mainly studies how to make machines function like humans in many capacities such as learning, thinking, reasoning, and planning. The development of different technologies like big data, mobile Internet, supercomputing, brain science, and sensor networking as well as the social economy has created three main stages of AI development: the perceptual intelligence stage, the perceptual enhancement stage, and the cognitive intelligence stage. Each new development stage adds new features to AI like interdisciplinary fusion, deep learning, man-machine collaboration, and autonomous manipulation. See Fig. 5.1.
