Chapter Chapter 6 in Business Ethics, 2024, pp 133-171 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract There are many guardians required to ensure good governance of fair wealth creation in free markets. Central Banks are critical regulators who foster good governance of the economy by ensuring there is minimal systemic risk to the economy falling into recession. It uses relevant monetary tools to enable full employment with stable currency, reasonable interest rates, stable low inflation and availability of liquidity among others. Similarly, the Central Bank’s monetary policies together with the state fiscal policies can be called upon to hasten economic recovery from unexpected shocks to the economy. There are also no truly fully competitive physical/online markets and capital markets. Market players can potentially influence other players especially when they wield monopoly power. Securities and Exchange Commission ensure stock market investments in shares are protected through among others timely audited annual reports and timely material disclosures. The Competition or Anti-trust Commission ensure good governance through rules that mitigate abuse of market power or the acquisition of market power to facilitate fair competition among market players for everyone’s benefit.
