Abstract: Abstract Extant literature analysing Sri Lankan corporate governance rules has provided few in-depth accounts of the perceptions of the corporate community in Sri Lanka. This is despite the Sri Lankan corporate community being recognised as an “important player,” and their lived experiences and views offering insights into how the corporate governance rules in the country operate in practice. It follows that Sri Lankan corporate governance literature generally fails to identify critical contextual issues that the Sri Lankan corporate community face in the application of corporate governance rules. This study avoids this gap when assessing the possibility of implementing board gender diversity rules in Sri Lanka by incorporating the views of a subgroup from the Sri Lankan corporate community. The analysis of these empirical findings together with the findings in the literature considered in this chapter provides a valuable foundation to propose a unique Sri Lankan perspective on introducing board gender diversity rules.
