Abstract The period after World War II was one of considerable change for Australia’s transport sectortransport sector. The developments that occurred were varied but included the continued rise in importance of motor transport which had begun before the war, the ongoing decline of rail and later its focus on the transport of bulk commodities and long-distance containers, and the explosive growth of air travel.
