Chapter 5 in China’s Approach to Energy Security, 2023, pp 145-192 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The previous chapter has highlighted the “fragmented authoritarian” nature of China’s oil and gas policy-making, and the great influence the NOCs can exert. By introducing two domestic-oriented cases—Chinese oil pricing reform and the west-east gas pipeline (WEGP) project, this chapter looks into the interplay between the central state and the NOCs, and possibly the MOCs, specifically, their preferences and strategies.
