Abstract China has been thrust into the world spotlight thanks to its surging appetite and growing reliance on foreign energy resources. In 2021, China’s imports of crude oil and natural gas hit 513 Mt and 168 Bcm, accounting for 72.05 percent and 45 percent of China’s oil and natural gas consumption respectively.
