Chapter Chapter 1 in Guns and Ledgers, 2023, pp 1-24 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In the past two to three decades, global historical works targeting the general public have become a new trend in international historiography. On the one hand, it is because the new perspectives on global modernization and its relevance to countries and regions worldwide have become mainstream. On the other hand, an increasing number of historians have taken it upon themselves to provide historical knowledge to the public. This book covers the entire East Asian World during the mid-fifteenth to seventeenth centuries. During this period, East Asia experienced unprecedented and profound changes, which were driven by economic globalization.
