Myths and Misconceptions That Cost Millions

Chapter Chapter 2 in The SAP Security Governance Handbook, 2026, pp 23-34 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Within SAP security governance, some of the costliest failures do not originate from zero-day vulnerabilities, misconfigured SAP system-level configurations (such as authorization settings, transport controls, or core system parameters), or missing transport controls. They originate from something far more subtle—deeply embedded beliefs. These beliefs emerge as harmless narratives during discussions, often meant to simplify responsibility or accelerate decision-making. Yet over time, they evolve into cultural assumptions that weaken governance discipline and create structural blind spots.
