Abstract: Abstract Segregation of duties (SoD) and critical-access controls form the foundation of SAP security governance. These principles are not theoretical ideals; they are practical safeguards designed to prevent fraud, reduce operational error, and enforce accountability within complex business environments. In principle, the logic is straightforward. Segregation of duties ensures that no single individual can complete a sequence of actions that would allow them to manipulate financial results or conceal wrongdoing. Critical-access controls restrict high-risk capabilities—such as payment release, vendor maintenance, or master-data changes—to a limited set of individuals with validated business justification.
