Chapter 6 in Logistics, 2013, pp 95-137 from Springer
Abstract:
Learning Objectives Storage and warehousing are central logistics tasks. They require logistics systems which are to a great extent technology-driven and which any logistics expert needs to work with in everyday practice. This chapter aims to familiarize the reader with the basics of warehousing, handling and sorting systems. In so doing, it will address the basic methods to organize storage areas and storage processes. Furthermore, tried and tested solutions for warehouse equipment will be explained. The main focus will be to elucidate the business-economical contexts and effects associated with different solutions in order to point out the diverse options to the readers and to assist them in the assessment thereof.
