Chapter 7 in Logistics, 2013, pp 139-160 from Springer

Abstract: Learning Objectives Inventory management, stock management, and provisioning management play an important role in logistics. On the one hand, they directly influence the delivery service. On the other hand, inventory costs are a significant cost driver in the supply chains. This chapter aims to present different approaches to inventory and order planning as well as to the application of established warehousing strategies, of fundamental principles of provisioning, and of procurement-logistical concepts. Furthermore, different approaches in developing cooperative inventory management strategies within the supply chains will be discussed. From this the reader will get comprehensive references in order to meet the challenge between high product availability and low inventory (costs).
