Abstract: Abstract This chapter discusses binary relations that are from a set to itself. Important properties of reflexivity, irreflexivity, connectedness, transitivity, quasi-transitivity, acyclicity, symmetry, asymmetry, and anti-symmetry are defined and elaborated upon. Notions of a best element and a maximal element are defined; and sufficient conditions for the existence of a best element and for the existence of a maximal element are presented.
