Abstract:
Abstract This chapter presents the rationale for writing this book and provides an insight into its structure. The aim of the book is to contribute to the debate on population development, ageing and migration. In particular, the impact of different international migration developments on population and labour market dynamics in Europe has been examined. This has been done by assuming various migration scenarios and running a population dynamics model. We also examine to what extent changes in economic activity may offset the negative consequences of population and labour force ageing. To make our research transparent, the mechanism for the creation of the forecasts and scenarios are presented in detail—from theoretical considerations through empirical analysis of available data, defining the model and scenarios of the components of population change, to running simulations, projections and forecasts and finally to the analysis of the results.
