Chapter Chapter 1 in Empirical Applications of the Median Voter Model, 2025, pp 1-10 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This book presents eight empirical papers utilizing the median voter model. Like the model of perfect competition, the median voter model is often the starting point for understanding public sector demand. As collective decision-making extends to even more areas of life, the median voter model is a useful starting point for understanding changes in government output. In addition, the median voter model provides the benchmark by which we evaluate the effect of different institutional regimes on outcomes. In this introduction, we provide a brief overview of the median voter model and discuss the papers in this book in the context of the larger literature.
