Chapter Chapter 1 in Social Values and Social Indicators, 2021, pp 1-6 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This volume is a product of a post-retirement two-year National Fellowship—which the author is happy to acknowledge—awarded to him by the Indian Council of Social Science Research. As the title suggests, the book deals with certain normative aspects of economics, as reflected in the manner in which social choices and the axiomatic bases of economic measurement are restricted by moral values and the demands of logical consistency. This motivation is a running thread in the fourteen chapters constituting the book. The introductory chapter provides a background to the book’s concerns and summarizes the principal message of each chapter.
