Abstract:
Sport tourism extends sport to leisure-holiday activities and reflects the need felt in tourist markets to develop complementary services and products. It offers a valid alternative to the traditional 'sea, sun and beach' holiday. Sport tourism links the experience of sport travel with associated cultural aspects by combining them, in a novel way, to the travel and stay concept. The growing interest in this new way of considering the sport-tourism link is manifested by sector specialists (tour operators, hoteliers, promotion authorities, sport clubs and associations, etc.) continually on the lookout for new products to satisfy the changing needs of 'holiday sport people'.
