Using panel data to estimate Engel functions: food consumption in China

Abstract:
The conventional specification of the Engel function is modified to take full advantage of the characteristics of panel data, which are usually used to fit Engel curves. Empirical results based on Chinese data demonstrate the superiority of the proposed model.
