The Use of Surveillance Technologies in Planning Enforcement

Abstract: This article explores the use of surveillance technologies in planning enforcement. Using literature from surveillance studies, it explores the use of well-established and more recent 'surveillance technologies', including aerial photography, closed-circuit television and the Street View function in Google Maps. The article identifies the varying use of these technologies in planning enforcement and explains the reasons for this using concepts derived from surveillance studies.
