Abstract:
Planning research has been discussing the apparent gap between its advances and what is applied in practice. There is broad agreement that open communication is vital for bridging this divide, yet the most efficient methods to do so remain unclear. This paper addresses the gap by working with planning departments in Portugal to identify these methods – exposition, text and collaboration. While collaboration produced the strongest results, all methods demonstrated benefits in specific contexts, suggesting that composite applications can enhance communication efficiency. The results show a path towards systematizing knowledge on research-practice interactions and fostering improvements in planning practice.
