Does being male or female affect life satisfaction? Empirical evidence from Lesotho

Abstract: This paper explores the factors influencing life satisfaction in Lesotho, with a keen focus on uncovering male and female disparities. The dataset used is the 2018 Lesotho Multiple Indicator Survey sourced from the Lesotho Bureau of Statistics. Employing the ordinal logit model for our analysis, the findings show that females are less satisfied with life relative to males. Therefore, the empirical examination does reveal compelling or substantial statistical evidence of gender disparity in terms of life satisfaction in Lesotho. This reflects the need for a collective effort by the Lesotho government with its development partners in an attempt to bridge gender gaps in different socio-economic dimensions within the society.
