From vision to action: the role of managerial ability in shaping corporate green innovation strategies

Abstract: Based on the upper echelon’s theory, the given study analyzes the relationship between managerial ability and green innovation by employing a sample of A-listed Chinese firms from 2003–2018. We find that there is a positive relationship between managerial ability and green innovation. The interaction terms finding suggest that board gender diversity weakens, while corporate governance quality strengthens this relationship. The outcomes signify the importance of strong governance mechanisms in creating an environment where management ability drives proactive environmental projects. Our study contribute to the growing body of knowledge by identifying managerial ability as a key determinant of green innovation. Our study findings have theoretical and practical implications for enterprises, policymakers, regulators, and key stakeholders eager to promote sustainability performance.
