Abstract: This article examines Italy's profound transformation from a Catholic-majority nation to a religiously diverse society through the theoretical lens of “covenantal pluralism.” The analysis traces the unique “Italian path” toward pluralism, beginning with its constitutional and legal foundations. It focuses on how Italian institutions and political parties have historically navigated and adapted to the country's increasing religious diversity, assessing the nation's progress toward a society of mutual respect with persisting criticalities of this transition.
