Abstract:
This article explores the intersection of the highest court rulings on protecting the human right to water and sanitation with the responses of the executive branch in five Latin American countries. We provide an overview of the water management and legal systems of Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Mexico to understand how these governments take action following judicial rulings in ten Latin American cases where the judiciary directed the executive branch to ensure the human right to water and sanitation. The findings are presented as normative policy insights drawn from the analysis of the ten cases.
