The impact of pandemic experiences on future similar situations: analysis of latent variables and trip purposes in ride-hailing choice

Abstract:
Due to the experience and knowledge of individuals since COVID-19, this study aims to study how people would choose ride-hailing for different trip purposes under similar conditions in the future. Data was collected through a stated preference questionnaire and the choice of ride-hailing is then analyzed separately for daily, mandatory, and discretionary trips using three binary logit models. The importance of variables related to health concerns like Perceived Threats is evident in all models. Results indicate that individuals who prioritize the health of their families are less likely to use these services both on mandatory and discretionary trips. Additionally, ride-hailing systems is preferred by students for mandatory trips as well as women on shopping trips, while people with high incomes do not use them for work trips. The findings suggest that companies offering ride-hailing services should focus more on health measures to increase their usage in times of crisis.
