Abstract:
Utilizing a pragmatic inductive non-exegetical scriptural and theological hypostatic Goffmanian frame analysis of Jesus’ words in John 10:34 God’s theopoieō is asserted, in contrast to theosis or divinization. The assertion of God’s theopoieō is presented as a plausible alternative to the current contextualization of John 10 and in particular John 10:34 as an exegetical contextualization of Psalm 82:6. The plausibility of this assertion lies in the hypostatic reading of John 10:34 as well as the linguistic construction of John 10:35 wherein the declaration that the scripture cannot be set aside directly follows Jesus’ affirmation of theopoieō. This assertion then allows for the manifesting of one’s god nature in contrast to becoming as is advanced through divinization or theosis. Additionally, post-hoc scriptural and theological analyses are undertaken to support the assertion of theopoieō.
