Abstract:
This article examines the strategic internationalization of universities in Uzbekistan and its implications for globaluniversity rankings. The study analyzes internationalization as a multidimensional process encompassing academicmobility, international research collaboration, curriculum alignment, and institutional reputation building. Special attentionis given to the ways in which global ranking systems operationalize internationalization-related indicators and how Uzbekuniversities integrate these indicators into their development strategies. The findings demonstrate that internationalization, when embedded in long-term institutional planning and aligned with national higher education reforms, contributes toimproved research visibility, academic quality, and global recognition. The article argues that global rankings shouldbe viewed not as ultimate goals but as navigational tools supporting sustainable institutional development. The resultsmay be useful for policymakers, university administrators, and researchers interested in higher education reform andinternational engagement.
