The impact of competition on economic growth: evidence from uzbekistan’s automative industry

Abstract: Competition is a key driver of economic growth, fostering innovation, efficiency, and consumer welfare. Thisstudy examines the effects of market liberalization on Uzbekistan’s automotive industry, focusing on the role of competitionin enhancing productivity and economic resilience. Using a mixed-method approach combining statistical data from 2016to 2024 and primary surveys of consumers and dealerships the study analyzes trends in vehicle production, localization,employment, investment, and affordability. Results show that reduced import tariffs, increased foreign direct investment,and expanded local manufacturing have improved market accessibility, service quality, and consumer choices. Theanalysis highlights how competition encourages efficiency and supports sustainable development. These findings offervaluable insights for policymakers aiming to promote sectoral growth through competitive reforms
