TOWARDS A LOW-CARBON FUTURE: RENEWABLE ENERGY AND EFFICIENCY POLICIES IN UZBEKISTAN

Abstract:
This article examines Uzbekistan’s transition toward a lower-carbon development pathwayby focusing on the combined role of renewable energy expansion and energy efficiency policy. The analysisshows that the country’s continued reliance on fossil fuels, the need to modernize existing infrastructure, andopportunities to further strengthen the regulatory framework remain important areas of sustainable energyreform. At the same time, Uzbekistan has strong solar and wind potential, while energy-efficiency measuresin buildings, households, and industry offer immediate opportunities to reduce consumption, emissions,and operating costs. The article argues that long-term success depends on an integrated policy approachthat combines investment incentives, institutional reform, grid modernization, workforce development, andinternational cooperation. Such a strategy can improve energy security, strengthen economic resilience, andsupport national sustainable development objectives.
