Abstract: This paper reports on the first stage of the research project that aims to develop an IT-based system for improving safety of young workers in Poland, carried out under a contract with the Central Institute for Labour Protection/National Centre for Research and Development. (CIOP NCBiR). The main purpose of this stage of the project was to create a novel knowledge management framework for formal and informal safety training with the use of combination of explicit and hidden knowledge. The proposed framework includes consideration of the effectiveness of the formal and informal sources of knowledge in the field of occupational safety and learning methods that utilize these sources of knowledge. A mapping from the formal sources of explicit knowledge about the occupational safety to expected attitudes (hidden knowledge) towards occupational safety and health outcomes, including emotional, cognitive and behavioral aspects, has been discussed.
