Abstract: The present paper intends to provide only a summary overview of the current point of development of an ethics for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and some of its legal implications. At the present time, AI is discussed as a means or a tool to be used in different fields of social life, like economy, military and others. While technical progress, mainly software, but also on the hardware side, has made huge strides in the last decade, no legal framework has been developed or agreed upon so as to provide guidelines in AI development or application within the wider social framework. While even some leading scientists and even business leaders have repeatedly called for the creation of legally binding rules, governments around the world are still reserved about this issue. The effects of a lack of legal regulation of AI could be at this moment impossible to be even quantified, as the introduction of such systems at a global scale and in such a short timeframe have never been done in history. A debate is needed on an ethical level first, followed by swift and thorough and balanced legal codification. The absence of such rules of law could have unforeseeable effects for society as a whole.
