Abstract:
Folk art narrates about the everyday life of the poorer and less educated people and it accompanies us at every step. It was created at the most important events in human life and is associated with customs and habits. With pupils of classes 6 and 7, we researched folk art typical of Haloze and more specifically Žetale with the surrounding area. We focused on making flowers from crepe paper. We wanted to learn who crafted traditional crepe paper flowers, what events they were used for and what are the techniques for making them. Research work was followed by the practical part; we asked the members of the rural women association of Žetale for help and they were happy to practically demonstrate the process of making crepe paper flowers and they taught the pupils the technique. In the workshop we created a bridal bouquet from white crepe paper, which a bride carried at the wedding. We also made boutonnieres for witnesses to a marriage and other wedding guest, centrepieces for the celebration and flowers for the decoration of bread braids. This type of work provided pupils with a more fun and practical way of learning about the local cultural heritage and at the same time acquire some skills that their grandmothers possessed.
