Abstract: Primary schools also enrol immigrant students, who can get a two-year status of a foreigner. During this time, their curricular requirements and assessments are adjusted. During the first term of the first year on their enrolment they are not assessed unless they wish to be. Teachers prepare minimal and principal knowledge requirements for each term to enable foreign students to follow the lessons more easily. In January, an individual programme for each student is prepared. Adjustments are made according to the student’s language skills. They include extending test writing time, possibility of using a dictionary, writing tests outside of the classroom, where instruction comprehension is checked, only oral or written assessment, knowing the date of assessment, reduced number of grades required for each subject, etc. The individual programme is presented to the parents and the students. During the second term of the first year, the students are assessed using the prepared minimal or principal knowledge requirements. If students do not achieve the minimal goals of a subject, they can pass the class without grades. If it happens with several subjects, it is recommended, in accordance with their parents and teacher, they be kept back a year. During the second year, the students have their negative grades if they, despite adjustments, fail to reach the minimal goals.
