Abstract:
The purpose of self-evaluation is to find out to what extent and in what way we achieved the goals set forth. We carry out self-evaluation to evaluate and determine value, quality, usefulness, efficiency or importance of what we are evaluating and wish to identify necessary improvements. Self-evaluation offer schools and kindergartens to introduce their story, the context that exceeds inspection, and ranking, merely using result of external assessment of knowledge or other national and international comparisons. Every year our institution chooses an area that we wish to improve. In the recent years, we chose two areas that we monitored and developed. The two areas that we improved in three years’ time was “Learning to learn with the emphasis on reading readiness” and “Developing and encouraging mutual assistance”. The previous school year we upgraded the area of “Learning to learn” with elements of formative assessment. We drew up action plans and set execution and evaluation criteria for all the activities. Self-evaluation itself does not provide quality and does not change it, its purpose is not to achieve set aims, but to follow and evaluate attainment of the objectives or planned improvements. Education staff must recognise benefits of self-evaluation. It is an approach, which should primarily encourage methods and effort of education workers to share their knowledge and experience, to systematically and directly co-operate and to be willing to assume one’s responsibility to improve the quality, which is then reflected in students' achievements.
