Abstract: Mobile payments (m-payments) are seen as having a bright future. However, the adoption of m-payments has been uneven globally. Different countries have different adoption experiences. In this research, we ask the following question: “What are the factors that account for different patterns of adoption of mobile payments in different countries?” We use Actor Network Theory (ANT) to examine the research question and the issues surrounding the phenomenon. We propose several factors as the determinants of m-payment adoption in a country and present several mini-cases to support our propositions.
