Abstract: Social capital is how human sociability raise the efficiency of interpersonal relationships and coordinated actions. Moreover, it was considered an important path for accumulation of advantages for individuals and groups, highlighting their importance in socioeconomic development process of nations. So, the paper objective is analyze the social capital, especially the theoretical evolution about this concept and how it contributes for nations development. To achieve this, the article will be subdivided into five sections, besides the introduction, as: first a summary of the theoretical origins; second explores the deterministic view about social capital; third shows the criticism of the previous approach by dynamic vision; fourth is about new contributions that complement the dynamic vision and, finally, the fifth section contains the concluding remarks.
