Abstract:
The study aims to develop a model of economic growth compatible with Thirlwall's Law (1979). The model originally developed by Thirlwall disregards the lack of infrastructure as a limiting factor to the flow of trade and therefore economic growth. The hypothesis of this study is that the continuous public investment in transport infrastructure is crucial for sustained growth. Thus, we intend to move forward in the theoretical debate introducing the infrastructure gap in the original model. Also, we made numeric simulations in order to test the validity of "Thirlwall's Law" as well as identify the impacts of public investment in infrastructure over the long-term growth, in order to propose economic policies to improve the foreign Brazilian trade.
