Abstract: A poverty affects almost half of the six billion inhabitants of this planet. Even though at levels lower than in countries such as Africa and Asia, in Brazil, poverty rates have become quite high. These indicators relate to the traditional monetary indicators. Moreover, poverty is proportionately greater in rural areas of all regions of Brazil. However, in some regions, this distortion is worse. In less developed areas of the country such as the Northeast, spatial differences are subtle, the most central and lush - South East / South - the proportion of poor in rural areas to be almost twice the proportion of poor in urban areas. Nevertheless, in recent years has seen a reduction in rural poverty. This reduction was due to income growth. Based on findings that rural poverty has declined, it is intended, through econometric models to evaluate the evolution of the probability of poverty for rural households in its different Brazilian regions. The goal is to capture the effect of the main variables that the theory deems important in explaining poverty, such as education and income, controlling the specific characteristics of individuals such as gender, occupation, age, race and land area of the home. The results indicated a reduction in the probability of poverty increases over the years analyzed.
