Abstract: The objective of this study is to analyze the migration and its effects on the Midwest region labor market in 2000 and 2010. Data used are from the Demographic Census of 2000 and 2010. We compare the socioeconomic characteristics, unemployment rates and occupations of migrants and non-migrants, and compare the same data among migrants from different regions of origin. The results showed that migrants have more skilled jobs, but they are not taking place of the non-migrants in the labor market, as the unemployment rate fell in proportion to migrants and non-migrants. Migrants are employed in occupations requiring better qualifications and the most qualified migrants come from the South and Southeast regions.
