Abstract:
This work aims to analyze the wage determinants of domestic workers in Brazil and to investigate the wage dispersion in the sector. Additionally, the use of quantile regressions allows to compare the impact of the variables on different salary levels. To achieve the proposed objective, are used data from the National Household Survey for the years 2002 to 2013 on women employed as domestic servants. Overall, it has been found that the human capital factors, segmentation and discrimination are relevant to the domestic service sector, showing wage dispersion. However, the poor seem more sensitive to effects of human capital and formal aspects of the activity, hence the design of public policies to encourage the regulation of the service.
