Abstract:
This paper studies the generalities of the development and operation of the mucuposadas as a lodging facility trend within the tourist accommodation system at national and international levels. Starting from a documentary research design, it was found that thanks to priority norms and regulations regarding the use of energy, solid waste management, and wastewater treatment, the mucuposadas within the tourist sector improve the economic and social well-being of the residents from the different areas, enhancing the sustainability of their cultural and historical heritage through active participation of organized communities. Consistency between the tourist activity and the preservation of the environment is evidenced, particularly in terms of the living standards of inhabitants in culturally and environmentally protected areas. These experiences should be replicated in other regions and countries interested in sustainable tourism where educational institutions may be involved.
