Abstract: This research aims to analyze the production of coffee in the Espíndola Canton in the province of Loja in Southern of Ecuador. This work considered climatic variables such as rainfall and minimum and maximum average temperature, based on a production function, applying OLS to determine the relationship between coffee production and climatic variables. The results show the existence of a direct relationship between precipitation and coffee production, and also between production and harvested area, but there is an inverse relationship between maximum, average temperature and production; which is consistent with the empirical evidence. Additionally, various strategies are proposed to optimize capacity of farmers.
