Abstract: The 2017 Report examines the role of tourism in promoting economic diversification, structural transformation and inclusive growth in Africa. It analyses the contribution of tourism to output, employment, trade and foreign exchange earnings and assesses its potential as a driver of long-term development. Particular attention is given to the linkages between tourism and other sectors of the economy, including agriculture, manufacturing and services. The Report evaluates challenges that constrain the sector's contribution to development, such as inadequate infrastructure, limited connectivity, regulatory barriers and weak local linkages. It also explores policy options for increasing the developmental benefits of tourism while enhancing sustainability and resilience. The analysis highlights the importance of integrating tourism into broader development strategies aimed at strengthening productive capacities and supporting inclusive economic growth.
