Abstract: The 2021 Report examines how the African Continental Free Trade Area can contribute to inclusive growth and economic recovery in Africa. It analyses the continent's untapped trade potential and evaluates the relationship between regional integration, structural transformation and development outcomes. Particular attention is given to the distributional effects of trade liberalization, including its implications for women, young people, small enterprises and participants in informal cross-border trade. The Report assesses the opportunities and challenges associated with implementing the African Continental Free Trade Area in the context of economic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and other external shocks. It also explores the role of partnerships, institutions and complementary policies in ensuring that the benefits of trade are broadly shared. The analysis identifies measures that can strengthen resilience, foster inclusion and support sustainable economic development across the continent.
