Abstract: The 2013 Report reviews recent developments in world maritime transport and assesses trends in seaborne trade, shipping markets, port performance and maritime logistics. It analyses structural and cyclical factors affecting maritime transport and evaluates their implications for international trade and economic development. A special focus is devoted to the challenges faced by landlocked developing countries in securing reliable access to maritime transport services and international markets. The Report examines transport connectivity, transit systems, logistics performance and transport costs, and considers how these factors influence trade competitiveness and development opportunities. Particular attention is given to the role of infrastructure, regulatory frameworks and regional cooperation in improving access to global supply chains. The analysis highlights policy measures that can strengthen transport connectivity and support more efficient integration into international trade networks.
